Paris Paralympics: Whereas many had anticipated a gold from Sundar Singh Gurjar, he might solely handle a bronze, with Ajeet Singh getting silver.
While one expected a gold medal from India in the men’s javelin throw – F46 category at Paris Paralympics, it was a silver and bronze by Ajeet Singh and Sundar Singh Gurjar, respectively. While Ajeet came from behind in his fifth attempt to secure the second position with a throw of 65.52m, the world record holder, Gurjar had to make peace with third-place finish with a best attempt of 64.96m.

Nonetheless, courtesy of these two medals, the Indian contingent medals tally soared to 18. Meanwhile, the reigning world champion, Cuba’s Guillermo Varona Gonzalez took home the gold medal with a personal best effort of 66.14m. Another Indian in the fray, Rinku failed to impress and could only manage a best throw of 61.58m to finish fifth.
Sharad Kumar & Mariyappan Thangavelu Also Secure 2-3
On the other hand, in the men’s high jump T42 category, India managed 2-3 on the podium once again. Sharad Kumar landed a silver with a Paralympics Record of 1.88m, and Mariyappan Thangavelu finished behind him with a best leap of 1.85m. Shailesh Kumar also finished with 1.85m, but could only manage a fourth place finish. USA’s Frech Ezra won the gold medal with a leap of 1.94m.
