AJW’s Taproom 2024 12 months in Ultrarunning Awards – iRunFar

This Week in Running Justin Mock TWIRFor the previous 12 years, I’ve posted some year-end ultrarunning awards. I wish to introduce the thirteenth annual AJW’s Taproom 12 months in Ultrarunning Awards for 2024.

You’ll be able to try my awards from the top of 20112012201320142015201620172018201920212022, and 2023. I did one thing a bit totally different in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

These are usually not scientific in any means, and the standards are made up totally by me. They symbolize a collection of North American athletes competing in ultramarathons in america and overseas. In making these picks I adhered to the standards spelled out within the “UltraRunning Journal” annual awards.

“To be eligible, an athlete have to be a full-time North American resident (no matter their citizenship), or be a U.S., Canadian or Mexican citizen (no matter the place they reside).”

My rankings by no means symbolize an exhaustive research, nor do they fake to be absolutely consultant of all that occurred in 2024 — so take them or go away them. Right here goes!

Ladies’s Rookie of the 12 months

[Author’s Note: For the purposes of my Rookie of the Year award, I consider a runner to be a rookie if 2024 was their first season racing ultra distances at a highly competitive level. In most cases, the candidates considered for this award have completed a few races in prior years and/or at shorter distances, but 2024 marked the first time they made an impact on the national or international scene beyond a race or two. For me, my “rookie” litmus-test example is Anton Krupicka in 2006 when he came out of nowhere and won the Leadville 100 Mile.]

AJW’s Beer of the Week

Fogtown Brewing CompanyThis week’s beer of the week comes from Fogtown Brewing Firm in Ellsworth, Maine. Foglight Maine Pilsner is a crisp and refreshing beer, brewed with simply the correct amount of hops. As belies its title, it pours crisp and clear and is greatest loved alongside some traditional Maine shellfish.
