Niroshan Dickwella performed his final worldwide recreation for Sri Lanka in 2023, and his final white-ball recreation again in 2022.
In a shocking development that has taken through the cricketing world, Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella has been suspended from all forms of cricket following an alleged anti-doping violation. The incident is said to have occurred during the recently concluded Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), in a media release, announced the suspension on Dickwella, who captained the Galle Marvels in the tournament. After a few publications reported the development, SLC came out with a statement.
Sri Lanka Cricket statement on Dickwella
This is not the first time Niroshan Dickwella has found himself embroiled in controversy. In 2021, he was handed a year-long ban alongside teammates Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis for breaching bio-bubble protocols during a tour of England in UK. Multiple media reports claim that the cricketer tested positive for cocaine during the LPL 2024, a tournament which saw Jaffna Kings emerge as champions and Dickwella’s Marvels ended up as runners-up. This is a significant blow to Dickwella’s career. At 31 years of age, it surely looks like Dickwella’s 138 international games will stick to the same number.
